Welcome to School Year 2012-2013!

One hundred years ago Alice McLellan Birney said, "Let us have no more croaking as to what cannot be done; let us see what can be done, and above all see that it is done." That brisk philosophy still drives the PTA today. While the methods may change to make us more responsive to the demands of an electronic era, the underlying principle does not.

Turtle Rock Elementary School PTA is a non-profit, volunteer organization committed to the well-being of all children. It is our belief that every adult has a responsibility to ensure that all children develop to their full potential. We also believe parents are first teachers and that parent involvement is essential throughout a child's educational experience. We recognize the family can be defined in many ways and believe that family is the basic unit of society responsible for the support and nurturing of all children. Our responsibility includes advocating for the safety and welfare of all children and the opportunity for a quality public education for each child.

Purposes of the PTA:

  • To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship.
  • To raise the standards of home life.
  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
  • To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
  • To develop between educators and the general public such unified efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education.

PTA President's Message

January 26, 2013

Fellow Turtle Rock Parents,
I’ve always known that Turtle Rock has the best parental support and spirit of volunteerism of any school around, but this year you've exceeded all of my expectations!  When we hold our Fall Pledge Drive every year, we always hope to raise enough funds to continue supporting the many educational and community-building events the PTA sponsors.  In this year’s pledge drive, parents donated over $67,000, and over 700 of you became PTA Members.  That is simply amazing!
So how will your generous donations be spent at Turtle Rock this year?  We’ve already put a good portion of that money and tons of volunteer hours to good use at our first outdoor movie night, throughout Red Ribbon Week (including Walk to School Day and the BMX Bike Assembly), at the Spooktacular Fall Festival, and by supporting our kids’ creativity and love of learning through the Reflections program and the Annual Book Fair and Family Fun Night.  And we’re just getting started!
A big thank you goes out to all the Chairpeople, Room Parents and volunteers who put in so much time and energy to make these events successful.  It’s very gratifying to see so many new faces showing up for school events this year, and the old faces are out in force too, working together to create exciting and enriching experiences for our kids
But it’s not all just fun and games.  Turtle Rock's PTA has also donated funds this year to provide equipment for our P.E. Specialist, to sponsor six educational assemblies, to enable Wi-Fi access for the entire school, and to supplement our teachers’ classroom accounts with field trip resources, and much, much more.
Be sure and check out our newly updated (and very snazzy) PTA website (www.turtlerockpta.org) to see what's next on the calendar.  Trust me, you don’t want to miss a thing.
If you would like more information on how your donations are being spent, please attend a General Assembly PTA Meeting for detailed information.  We want to hear from you and the PTA’s door is always open.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support so far this year.  Our PTA Board works hard to ensure everyone who wants to volunteer has an opportunity to do so!  We hope you’ll continue to support the PTA as we strive to make our children’s education our top priority and to foster Turtle Rock spirit for the remainder of this year.
Happy Holidays!
